Calvert Hall Conquers St. Paul’s in MIAA Quarterfinal Playoff

The Calvert Hall Cardinals achieved a victory against St. Paul’s on Friday, May 10.  It was a pivotal win for the cardinals.  The MIAA A Conference playoff quarterfinal game will propel the team to the semifinal round verse #1 Digital Sports National Lacrosse Ranked Boys’ Latin.  Calvert Hall’s win facing the St. Paul Crusaders added to their fourth consecutive win placing the team in #27 on DS rankings.

On Friday’s game, Calvert Hall senior midfielder Stephen Kelly kept the team on top.  He won the final six face-offs and the last goal of the game in the “timer on” shot-clock rule.  His teammates, Jack De’Angelo, Tyler Mayes, Erik Evans, Michael Lanahan and Matty Brashears played an outstanding game in defending their teams’ goalie, Joe McSorley. The Cardinal’s were in the lead within the first quarter with goals from Jordan Germershausen, Timmy Kelly and Jon Belz.  By the second quarter, Andrew Fanshaw contributed a goal ending the half with a 5-3 lead.

Calvert Hall entered the third quarter with intensity, scoring two more goals for the team only letting up one goal passed McSorley.   By the time the final period commenced, St. Pauls’ offense came through with two goals with seven minutes left on the clock.  With only little time left of the game, the Calvert Hall Cardinals took possession and finished with a close triumph of 10-8.

Calvert Hall will be playing Boys’ Latin on Tuesday, May 14, in the MIAA A semifinal round.
